Welcome to the Bioactive Site - an online resource for biology learning and teaching.
The Bioactive Site is an ongoing project of Dr. Rick Hershberger, Associate Professor of Biology at California University of Pennsylvania. It is my collection of lecture notes, lab activities, learning materials, courseware, and web links for learning and teaching biology. Viewing documents within the Bioactive Site
Some of the files within this site require the use of plug-ins and helper applications that enable your web browser to view certain file types. You may need to download and install some of this additional software, depending on the files you wish to view. Much of this software installs and configures itself with little user intervention, while configuring your web browser to view non-html documents with the helper application or plug-in.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader views the numerous documents in this site that are in Adobe's cross-platform Portable Document Format (filenames ending in .pdf).
- Microsoft Office (commercial) or its Viewer applications (downloadable from Microsoft) are necessary for viewing documents written in Microsoft Word (filenames ending in .doc or .dot), Microsoft Excel (filenames ending in .xls), or Microsoft PowerPoint (filenames ending in .ppt or .pot). The PowerPoint Viewer is available here.
- Chime plug-in displays and manipulates 3D structures of molecules from Brookhaven Protein Data Bank (PDB) molecular coordinate files (filenames ending in .pdb).
- Vector NTI Viewer views genetic sequence database files (filenames ending in .seq or .gdb).
